Copernican Observatory & Planetarium
Bringing astronomy down to Earth
Each year, thousands of Connecticut school children are introduced to the night sky by visiting the Copernican Observatory and Planetarium at CCSU. Thousands more citizens of our state also share in the joy of learning about the universe through our public shows and observing sessions, and through special events tailor-made for local community organizations, from libraries and senior centers to Scout troops and day care centers. Your generous gifts help to keep all of our programming free and accessible to the general public.
Gifts made to the Copernican Observatory and Planetarium will support the following:
- Special effects and audio-visual materials to enhance our planetarium shows.
- Educational materials for our in-house high school workshop program.
- Maintenance to our observatory dome.
- The purchase of telescope accessories that enhance our view of the night sky.
- Additional outreach activities, such as bringing astronomy activities out to local schools.
Central Connecticut State University offers opportunities to name buildings, sections of buildings, gardens, laboratories, conference rooms, as well as other outdoor and indoor space in the name of the Donor's choosing, subject to institutional policies, when a Donor contributes a certain amount toward the purpose, project or cause. Naming opportunities exist within the Copernican Observatory and Planetarium. In addition to providing for commemoration of a name in enduring form, they also have special significance because they express our heritage and keep alive the memory of those who have helped make the University a center of educational excellence. Individuals, families, corporations, and foundations are invited to making a gift for commemorative designation. Upon fulfillment of the gift commitment, the University will display a plaque or other appropriate commemorative designation with the name of the donor or of a loved one, family member, or friend. To discuss naming opportunities at Central Connecticut State University, please contact Chris Galligan, Vice President, Institutional Advancement at (860) 832-1764 (direct) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
