One Community

In response to the humanitarian crises in Texas, Florida, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean, Central Connecticut State University created a new fundraising initiative: the CCSU-Ana Grace Project Relief Effort.

Launched on October 7, 2017, the project is already actively supporting some 20 students from the University of Puerto Rico, which we welcomed to the Central Family on November 1. CCSU is now asking for specific contributions to help those students settle in at Central and prepare for a Connecticut winter. A gift of $150 would provide one student with the necessary funds.

To address the crucial needs of area schools preparing for a large influx of students and families displaced by catastrophe, the CCSU-Ana Grace Project Relief Effort is collecting contributions in support of:

1.Scholarship funds available to eligible individuals from the disaster areas who wish to pursue educational opportunities at CCSU.

2.Support of the eleven elementary schools under the Ana Grace Project umbrella.

As CCSU President Zulma R. Toro notes, "This fundraising initiative is a powerfully important way that Central can step up and serve as a resource for our communities."

Ana Grace is the beloved daughter of Jimmy Greene and Nelba Márquez-Greene and younger sister of devoted brother, Isaiah. Her life on earth was ended at Sandy Hook School on December 14, 2012 – a day forever etched in our collective conscious. For more information about Ana and the Ana Grace Project, click here.

This is an important effort and wish I could give more. In memory of our late colleague, Ronnie Fernandez, a scholar of Puerto Rico who loved it so.
