SPED Teachers Rock, Student Teacher Celebration, Dept. of Special Education and Interventions
Special Education & Interventions
The need for qualified special education teachers is growing in CT and nationally. Our programs provide aspiring special educators with the knowledge, skills, and disposition for a successful career in special education.
The Department of Special Education & Interventions offers several masters-level programs for educators as well as a Teacher Licensure Certificate program in special education. Nationally accredited and recently ranked at the top of our state for both bachelor's and master's degrees in education by ToBecomeATeacher.org, our programs emphasize carefully sequenced classes and field experiences that enable our students to gradually increase their knowledge and skills in the field of special education.
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
The MAT program is a selective graduate-level certification program that prepares qualified students for careers as teachers in the shortage areas. The MAT program is designed to co-prepare secondary educators and special educators to meet the needs of all learners within the general education classroom, including those at risk and students with disabilities.
Many of our students are unable to work even part-time due to the full schedule of classes, field experiences, and full-time student teaching. Your contribution will support scholarships to teacher candidates pursuing special education certification or those in the MAT program.
